Jan’s first practical experience as a performer came through Cambridge Footlights and the Cambridge Marlow Society, while studying for a teaching degree at Homerton College.  She never looked back and thirty years later is a household name recognisable to anyone in the UK with a television.

Jan provides The Learning Stage with an in depth knowledge of media affairs and an ability to ensure that her clients handle opportunities to real effect.

Her three areas of special expertise are in:

  • assisting individuals and teams in pitching to win
  • personal development and interpersonal skills to board level

Aside from her highly successful career as an actor, she has a wealth of experience as a television presenter, spending eighteen months alongside Angela Rippon hosting the popular daily business and finance channel, ‘Simply Money’.   She has first hand interview experience of The Wogan Show, BBC Breakfast, It takes Five, Loose Women, Gloria Hunniford and The Alan Titchmarsh Show, giving her a unique insight and understanding of the requirements of both the interviewer and the interviewee.

Jan makes extensive use of video playback.  Her courses are individually designed to produce results that align with our client’s particular ethos or brand image.

Career background

Jan’s work as a consultant within commerce and industry utilises the skills and techniques she has acquired over her own career in front of the media.  

Examples of assignments she has undertaken include:

  • Personal & professional presentation seminars for an international IT company in Rome and Vienna with extensive follow up work in London
  • A series of Developing Presence courses for middle management at a major outsourcing company
  • One to one development work with board members of several FTSE 100 companies
  • Media management and damage limitation scenarios with leading pharmaceutical companies
  • Pitching for success seminars with architects and designers.

Her credits as an actor include, Jan Howard in Howard’s Way, Edward VII, A Family Affair, Holding On, Sam, Fell Tiger, Bugs, The Old Men at the Zoo and Rockface. She has guest starred in The Final Quest, Inspector Morse, A Touch of Frost, Lovejoy and The Sweeney and made over 150 appearances on Countdown. Films include Hear the Silence.
